iTunes to have Podcast Support

[Archived in Entry, iTunes]

[Jason's Life] So, Apple has noticed that podcasting is here to stay, and are planning to integrate support for RSS feeds with audio content in their next version of iTunes. Should be interesting, although, I must say that I will continue to use iPodderX. Just like I use a separate news reader for my RSS feeds. It's nice that the support is in Safari, but I don't really use it to read my news.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

The Jason Calacanis Weblog - calacanis.weblogsinc.com _[The Jason Calacanis Weblog - calacanis.weblogsinc.com _] CalacanisCast #5: The Untouchables Solution to RSS content theft: Once you’ve added my feed to ipodder the software will check my RSS feed for changes every now and then. When it does find a blog post with an Mp3 file attached (called an enclosure) it will add that file to your iTunes and iPod (or other software/players). You don’t need to have a player of course, you can just have iPodder drop the mp3 file to your hard drive.

[rexblog.com: Rex Hammock's Weblog] RuSSh Limbaugh starts podcasting today: His "media center" approach is interesting, however, I think this is a transitional solution that will help his listeners take a baby step into receiving podcasts (and also solve the challenge of having a username/password integrated into the "podcast reader.") Ultimately, when they are receiving multiple podcasts from various sources, they'll want his feed to integrate into their way of accessing podcast feeds. (I'm just guessing, but I think the iTunes Store may play a part in this one day.) No doubt, he'll adapt to that changing desire.

[Oceanside, Nevada :: Main Page] It's almost the Grail.: It didn't work so well but it was pretty immature in it's development cycle. NewsFire could have been the perfect synthesis of RSS reader and podcatcher but the developer is of the opinion that podcasts and RSS readers don't really go together. I read a statement from the developer to that effect in which he stated that he felt that Apple should integrate podcasting into iTunes. After much feedback on his blog, he did release an update to NewsFire that adds limited podcast support but it simply wasn't enough for me to want to give up iPodderX.

http://www.m1k3k.com [Μ➀ĸ³κ ĐÕŦ ċóΜ] I HATE PODCASTS: I mention this podcasting hatred because of this link. Podcasts are nothing but a stupid way of combining either a few songs, a radio show, audio comments on some boring ass subject or some other creative way of merging audio files so one can then either play it on their iPods or just using iTunes. If anyone else hates Podcasts as much as me, please let me know. Post a comment and let me know.

Pycs.nethttp://www.pycs.net [Pycs.net] Bill Bumgarner: Other interesting RSS Feeds | iTunes Music Store ...: Update: Mark Carey has a feed of Mars rover photos Spirit Imagery also has an RSS feed of news and images from the rover. The feed does not include images, but tends to be a more complete/scientific feed than Mark's. I subscribe to both, now.

[Blog.thylmann.net] iTunes RSS Feeds - Oliver Thylmann's Blog: You can now get RSS Feeds from the iTunes Music Story and they are even configurable to your preferences right here! I, absolutely agree with nico in that I want iTMS in Germany. They seem to be doing several of the right things and getting a feed of your favorite, or potentially favorite, new releases would be great.

[Darcynorman.net] D’Arcy Norman Dot Net: I wanted to pick up a bit of Perl, and wanted to start a journal. Yes, my first blog was a lame-assed “it sure is hot today” personal journal. There’s a reason why the online archives of my blog don’t go back to the beginning… actually, I remembered this wrong… I started with MacJournal, in an offline journal, while poking around with the source for Blosxom to see what good Perl code looked like. The two things didn’t meet for a few months…

[Darcynorman.net] D’Arcy Norman Dot Net » Blog Archive » Podcasts in iTunes 4.9!: The only sane way (i.e., the first thing that popped into my head, so of course it’s the “right” way…) to get the feeds would be to have iTunes use Safari 2.0’s “All RSS Feeds” Collection, and sniffing all (or a marked subset?) for enclosures. Perhaps each “RSS Feed” could have a setting like “automatically suck down podcasts via iTunes” or something creative.

Decafbad.comhttp://www.decafbad.com [Decafbad.com] iTunes Music Store RSS Feeds - Archives - Blog - 0xDECAFBAD Blog: If you’re fine with just one page being transformed, use the resulting XML for the transformation to RSS. Otherwise, store the album information that you want to keep from the page and look for the value ‘X-Y of Z’. If Y and Z don’t match, increment batchNumber and process the resulting XML.
