Christmas Gizmo #2364

[Archived in Car Mp3 Players, Entry, In Car Mp3 Players, Mp3 Players For Car, Mp3 Players Portable, Portable Mp3 Players]

Christmas Gizmo #2364 damian on 2003/12/24:

„I've delved into portable mp3 players and have one in my car, but the thing that's always bothered me (besides the limitations of the mp3 format) was that when I got a new car (eventually) I'd have to kiss goodbye to a convenient in-car mp3 player and that more than likely there would be no auxilliary input for my portable mp3 player in the new car.“

Doing Something Different: A Weblog by Doug Miller

„The starter kit I bought was unfortunately designed for Windows and included the execrable ActiveHome software. Aside from being somewhat limited in capabilities, the interface looks to have been drawn by a two year old with a crayon. It's also buggy and unreliable.“

Latitude 38 Letters - April 2003

„Unfortunately, it's a future that will never be realized due to an incredibly inexcusable act. Hollis was a happy, eager-to-please guy you ran into all the time. A few years ago Hollis pulled a 70-year-old German visitor out of the Bay when he fell off the docks and couldn't find a ladder to get out.“

Of cat barf and Christmas

„Unfortunately, the old dog's infirmity doesn't limit his forays into the litter box for crunchy tootsie rolls. Those forays in turn make him puke on the floor beside my bed as he did this morning just after I finished cleaning up the cat barf. Please remind me that I do not ever want to acquire another pet, no matter how cute or fluffy, particularly one like B's kitten whose main goal in life is to make certain that the Christmas tree does not continue to rise from the dead every morning after we try to repair the overnight damage he has done.“

Harbinger: January 2004 Archives

„Earlier , I wrote that the iPod Mini was a silly idea for it's lower capacity, but not much lower price. Others apparently agreed with my assessment, as Ars Techinca has an article that seems just as confused and attempts to defend the device and price point. The gist of the argument appears to be, "Don't look at how you could get much more hard drive space for the same or just a little more price, but how you get more space than a flash player for about the same price."“

CSS Tinkering

„What's so inspiring about the iPod is its design. My very first impression was, "Where the hell is the volume switch and the power switch?" But now I wouldn't dare have another button on it. The first time I fired it up in the dark, and saw the light blue backlighting and the orange-ish buttons against the white surface and felt the slight whir of the hard drive as it loaded up a song, I wanted to cry tears of joy.“

a better tomorrow

„One of the criticisms of the iPod is that it ignores file and directory names and relies entirely on ID3 tags to organize files. Hence, even if you spent hours getting your file names all nice and organized but didn't fix up your ID3 tags (which are especially likely if you got all of your MP3s off KaZaA), or if you have your music organized into subdirectories (like: C:\MP3\shitty music\Andrew WK), it'll ignore all that. At first, I was annoyed by this, but I've found that it's much easier to navigate through my songs when you can sort them by artist name, album name, and genre.“

Christmas cheer

„So..apple announced their new "mini-Ipods" today, proving, once again that Apple has no clue when it comes to product segmentation. When I was an Apple fan back in the 80s and early 90s, I was still always irritated by their inability to create reasonable segmentation in their product line, and the new iPods just continue this trend.“
