[Archived in Entry, Mp3 Downloads]
Graeme Sutherland on 2004/04/12:
„Transcripts, real audio streaming and MP3 downloads are available. Good on the BBC! The MP3 downloads are new and are DRM-free.“

Some slightly related:
„is that we managed to push through offering this year's BBC Reith Lectures as DRM-free, mp3 downloads. They'll be added to the site after each lecture (looks like first one will go up Thursday morning). This may not sound like a big deal to folks, but this 'trial' is something we haven't managed to do before - so we're hoping there's a good reaction from punters.“http://www.drsnet.org/preoccupations/2004/04/ bbc_experiments.html - Cached

„Last year was Vilayanur Ramachandran talking about neuroscience , this year it is the Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka talking about language and politics in a series called the “Climate of Fear”. It is immensely impressive stuff, but more to the point, this year for the first time, instead of the usual Real stream, you can download the Reith Lectures in MP3 . Slap it in on your iPod, share it on Kazaa, burn it to CD and give it to your friends.“http://www.benhammersley.com/dparchives/ 008249.html - Cached

„This year's Reith Lectures are also available as MP3 downloads on a trial basis. Please be warned that the file sizes are large and may take a long time to download. The lectures will be available for download until June 7th 2004.“http://rantings.shaghaghi.net/archives/ reith_lectures_2004.html - Cached
„BBC Radio 4 is putting up transcripts and audio files of Vilayanur S Ramachandran's lectures on The Emerging Mind. I listened to the first one the other night and it was very interesting. It's always fun to think about how you think.“http://sasnak.org/archives/000014.html - Cached
„Radio 4 is making this years' Reith Lectures available as MP3 downloads . They weigh in at about 20mb each, but are worth the effort. A great idea, and one that should be extended, bandwidth permitting.“http://www.adambowie.com/weblog/archive/ 000708.html - Cached
„2) Someone at the BBC has decided to allow the Reith lectures to go out as MP3s as well as streamed audio, just as one of the first and most popular campaigns on their iCan campaign site requested. It’s a pity they decided to record voice at 64Kbps only (so the file size is large). Even if you don’t want to listen to the Reith lectures visit the page where there is a form and register your support for MP3s!“http://blog.org/archives/ cat_broadband_content.html#001097 - Cached

„Not to make light of the actual hardships people who are targeted by the lawsuits experience, but the RIAA is totally out of control, suing people for making search engines that happen to capture file listings on systems that may include MP3s, not to mention IMing file sharers with a tisk tisk note.)) The UCB Administrators responded that they have a policy of not interfering with the ways people use the network and could not comply because the network is set up to respect this. I don't have more details because the Daily Cal has had trouble with it's website recently, and I'm waiting to get a copy of the article to post. Will update then.“http://journalism.berkeley.edu/projects/biplog/.../ cat_fair_use_and_the_commons.html#000758 - Cached
